Simple Ways to Burn More Calories

Do you want to lose fat? Looking to get that lean and shredded look? Want to maintain the weight you’re currently at? Burning calories throughout the day can help. Do you have to spend two or three hours in the gym to burn extra calories? Of course not; there are easy ways to stay active without going into the gym to help you burn more calories.

Benefits of Burning More Calories

Weight Management: Burning more calories throughout the day has been shown to ensure you stay within your goal weight.

Fat Loss: What if you haven’t reached your goal weight yet? Can burning extra calories help? Nutrition is the foundation of fat loss, but exercise and physical activity also play an important part in promoting fat loss. The more calories you burn throughout the day, the more fat you’ll lose over the long term.

Energy Levels: During the office midday slump, how do you boost your energy levels? Most people reach for coffee, and this can lead to caffeine dependency. If you want to naturally and effectively increase your energy levels, be more active by trying some of the ideas below.

Best Ways to Burn More Calories

On Your Way

Take the Steps: Most of us jump in an elevator out of habit, but if your office is only a few stories up, take the stairs. You’ll get a great leg workout while burning extra calories.

Park Further Away: It’s tempting to take the spot right next to the entrance of the building, but if you want to burn more calories, try parking further away. Personally, I grab the last spot in the row no matter where I go.

Bike It: Or you can skip parking altogether and burn more fat by riding your bike to the office.

At the Office

Suggest Walking Meetings: Once you’re at work, there’s a good chance you’ll be called into a meeting. If you want to present yourself as an outside-the-box thinker, suggest a walking meeting, if it’s feasible. Energy levels will be higher and it may be your most productive meeting yet.

Walk During Your Breaks: After you’re finished with lunch, make good use of the remainder of your break by walking around the outside of the building.

Try a Standing Desk: Sitting has been deemed the new smoking as far as the detrimental health consequences. If you’re able to, opt for a standing desk. You’ll burn more fat, and have overall better health.

At Home

Exercise During Commercials: Back at home, there’s plenty to do to keep the calories burning. First, as you’re resting and catching up on your favorite show, be sure to perform mini-workouts during commercial breaks. For example, perform 20 jumping jacks, 10 push-ups, and 30 crunches during every break in the show.

Clean Out the Garage: It’s always a good time of year to clean out the garage. Between walking around and carrying boxes, this household task can count as a serious workout.

Get in the Garden: With the garage clean, the outside might be calling your name. If you don’t have a garden, consider planting one. It’ll keep your body and mind busy.

*Cardio tip: choose your favorite cardio machine (I like to alternate), and then perform at a pace that is difficult enough to where you are breaking a light sweat (60-70% of your max heart rate), but to where you could still keep a conversation going with someone if you had to.
